Alan Barnhart came to Christ in high school at a Young Life camp in Colorado.
He has an amazing wife, Katherine, and six children (37, 35, 33, 30, 28, and 25), three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law and eleven grandkids.
Alan has a boring resume—he worked for the same company since he was 10 years old and has recently stepped down as the CEO after 39 years in that position. He now serves as Chairman. Barnhart Craneand Rigging Company is a Heavy Lifting and Heavy Transport company based in Memphis, TN with offices in 60 cities across the US and Western Canada. By God’s grace, the company has grown an average of 18% per year for 39 years. Barnhart provides services to heavy industry and construction, focusing on power plants (wind, nuclear, and fossil fuel) and the petrochemical industry.
Alan’s fear of affluence caused him to cap his lifestyle. In 2008 Alan and Katherine, along with his brother Eric, transferred the stock of the company to a Christian trust. Since then, 5 other companies with a similar ownership structure have joined together to form the Kingdom Companies Group (KCG). The company profits for each company are invested in strategic missions through a collective they call the GROVE Group. KCG team members and spouses (about 60) work in six teams to develop Kingdom investment portfolios in hard areas of the world that inform the decision-making process of the GROVE Board. Over 60 team members have traveled internationally in that effort.
Alan seeks to affect other companies through involvement in the Kingdom Companies Group and C12. He is a trustee KGC Voting Trust and serves on the KCG Counsel. He is active in a local C12 group and serves on their board of directors. Alan attends a small neighborhood church and is an active backpacker.
